Making Memories in New England & Canada
Some cruise ports are wonderful to visit for a day. And then there are the ones that make you leave thinking, I want to come back here and stay awhile.
Bar Harbor, Maine, was one of those places for me.
I loved this quaint little town. We had time to walk around and look through the unique shops. One even had a beautiful carved wooden rocking horse.
After walking around town, we sat for a while on a grassy hill overlooking the harbor. It was gorgeous, with so many boats anchored all around
Then our excursion took us into Acadia National Park. I knew it would be pretty, but I don’t think I expected it to be as beautiful as it was. Everywhere we looked there was something different—the mountains, the water, little islands in the distance, fall color beginning to show, and then that rocky Maine coastline with the waves crashing against it.
As we drove through Acadia, our guide pointed out the old carriage roads built by John D. Rockefeller Jr. They wound quietly through the woods, almost like little hidden paths.
Our next stop was a lobster lunch. Of course—because we were in Maine! 🦞 I was going to eat it until they put the whole thing down in front of me—with those little beady eyes looking right at me. 👀🤣
Nope. I couldn’t do it.
Joe ended up with two lobsters that day. 😂
I may have passed on the lobster, but I wasn’t leaving Maine without trying a whoopie pie! I had read about them before our trip but had never had one. Then I spotted them in a little snack shop in Bar Harbor and knew I had to try one. 😂 It was delicious!
From walking around the quaint little town to exploring Acadia National Park, it was such a fun day.
Bar Harbor is still one of those places I’d love to go back to and spend a few days instead of just a few hours.
